American Hose Company Bulding

Reliance Hook and Ladder Company of 1860 was a small fire company in Tamaqua. However in 1878, the group re-organized and called themselves the American Hose Company. A few years later the company received a horse-drawn hose car, horse-drawn chemical tank, and also operated the borough’s horse-drawn sprinkler truck. The company got the first actual fire truck in town in 1914. The truck was used until 1936. The company also sponsored the first public ambulance service in the town.
